Murat is surrounded by three rocky hilltops that each hold treasures from different periods of history.
Visit the renaissance-style consular house, the Armagnac family house, the church from the 13th century.

  • The Maison de la Faune
  • The Mémorial des Déportés, Sound and light effects taking you through the gallery of pictures enabling you to relive moments from the resistance and the deportation, illustrating how some of the people of Murat survived in the concentration camp during the war. Not advised for the under twelve years old. Booking required 04 71 20 09 47
  • La Bonnevie de St Antoine : discover the remarkable landsacpe (Monts du Cantal, characteristic volcanic peaks, the necks or the wealth of religious heritage such as the Romanesque chapel of St Antoine founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 15th century). Marked trail : blue - 5.5 km - 2h on foot. Positive difference in altitude of 210m.

Around Murat :

  • Lake du Pêcher (Chavagnac). This lake is at a high altitude with the Monts du Cantal as a backdrop.During winter, it's necessary to have special equipment.
  • The Maison de la Pinatelle, scenographic display site about the Cantal's volcanic landscape (Chalinargues).
