Maison Piganiol is the last surviving factory in Aurillac perpetuating an age-old art, that has earned Aurillac the title of the European capital of umbrellas
From 1884 to the present day, five generations of fathers and sons have run the company, which was awarded the national distinction of "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" in 2009. The emblematic Berger umbrella and the L'Aurillac model are witnesses to this long and living heritage and they, like all Piganiol's other products, showcase the values of a French family business: quality and durability.
The shop in the town centre is the only place where these iconic Aurillac models are sold. Here, you will also find limited edition series and bespoke models.
New: Don't miss the opportunity to visit the factory near the town centre during your summer stay (July-August). Maison Piganiol opens its factory doors to the general public: an unmissable opportunity to discover an essential part of the local industrial heritage. In one hour, the whole family will be able to discover the secrets behind the manufacture and the art of the various trades involved in an umbrella factory: canopy making, sewing, pattern making, etc. You will learn all about the fascinating history of the umbrella through the centuries and in the town of Aurillac. Your guided tour will be illustrated by objects (old umbrellas, tools, etc.) as well as documents and photographs from the Piganiol family's private collection.
Note that your entrance fee is deducted from any purchase in the factory shop.
Please book your visit through Aurillac Tourist Information Office or online.
For group visits (10-15 people) outside the summer period, we invite you to contact the factory directly. Tel. 04 71 63 42 60.
